Why Capacity and Governance?
Lack of capacity and gender inequality in conservation are recognised issues in Vietnam. In addition, the majority of senior positions in conservation organisations in Vietnam are mostly male and are either foreign experts or overseas Vietnamese.
Realising the importance and urgency in developing capacity, human resources and creating a safe and equitable working environment in conservation in Vietnam, WildAct launches capacity building & governance programs for Vietnamese people. We develop and provide capacity building programs for conservation practitioners, local communities, and authorities adjacent to our key biodiversity and protected areas. In addition, we work with local Vietnamese universities and institutions to develop and run training courses in the short term and the first ever master’s course on wildlife conservation in the long term.
By developing capacity through developing people, counter-trafficking efforts are strengthened, organisational efficiency is increased and impacts and pressures on biodiversity locally, regionally and internationally are lessened.
What we do
1. Improving Conservation Capacity
Create a new generation of Vietnamese wildlife conservationists.
The project aims to harness self-motivation and enthusiasm by training and empowering a new generation of Vietnamese conservation practitioners to address the nation’s substantial responsibilities regarding wildlife conservation and management.
2. Increasing Gender Equity in Conservation
Women and men are able to safely and effectively engage in wildlife conservation in Vietnam.
The project benefited both male and female employees of organisations (local and iNGOs), National Parks and Nature Reserves working in environmental protection and nature conservation in Vietnam, as well as WildAct’s current students and young people who are planning to work in wildlife conservation.
